Its week 2 after the setup of this project. Go watch the update video, and tell me what you think...
I thought of filling the tank up with water maybe after week 3.....but anyway haven't actually decided when yet. Probably once I found a suitable deco for the empty space in the tank...I was thinking of some rocks with moss attached on it...
I guess that's it for now, I can't think of any reason to explain further, I bet the video has done the job. Anyway....I'm open to question and comments.....cheers:)

Would you like to tell me about your DIY Lighting? :D Thx
Hi Balinese,
I've yet to make an article of how I DIY my lighting...anyway here's some pic in my photo album...
http://picasaweb.google.com/borneosucker/Lighting?feat=directlink
All of my DIY lighiting so far is made of PVC pipes cut into half. Then it's either using aluminium foil, aluminium sheet or chrome paint to make the reflector. Everything else is just how I fix the bulb, ballast and wirings onto the PCV pipe.....Cheers :D
Hello there,
Yeah.. I like your DIY.. Especially the DIY Lighting on your Glosso's tank! :D
Oh yeah, which one is the DIY Lighting you use on your Glosso Tank?
Is it the DIY Lighting with 3 lamps?
And how is your glosso tank now?
I'd love to see it after almost a year.. :D
very nice..
Hi Balinese,
Yeap, the one with 3 lamp...it's a combination of:
1 x 20watt T8
2 x 24watt T5
But I have tear down that tank, and did a whole new rescape. Here's the link to the post I did for the tank
http://borneosucker.blogspot.com/2010/05/glosso-can-grow-on-gravel.html
However in this tank, I've change the lighting. I'm using 2x 55watt PLL and 1x 24watt T5.
If you don't, I would like to see the pics of your "old glosso tank" with the riccia on rock. Are there any pics left?
And what about the temperature?
How was the temperature when you grew the glossos last year?
I didn't see any chiller..
Did you place your tank in an AC-ed room?
you glossos looked grow well.. :D
I think that's about all, the pics I have in my online album. I have to check my harddrive, which at the moment is not with me :(...I will let you know again :D
If I can remember clearly, the riccia didn't have the chance to grow well in the tank...the Red cherries always picked the riccia...in the end all riccia end up floating :(
Temperature is around 27-28C...no I don't use any chiller, but I use fans.
Just curious, are you growing glosso too?
wow, something must be happened to your hardD.. yeah please let me know... :D
do you mean that the riccia project failed?
hmm..
Not yet, but I'm going to grow glosso, I can't wait..
But my senior said, I will fail because my temperature is approx 28-29C, It makes the glosso melt..!!
Do you think 29C is okay for glosso?
I guess it failed?...haha, nope...the shrimps enjoy picking the riccia....afterall as far as I know, riccia are natural floaters, any chance they escape from being tied, will end up floating :(.....hmm, but I can't really remember how my riccia looks like....I guess I gave little attention to it...now, I don't have any riccia in my tanks :)
What's your tank temperature when you turn on the lights?...29C?.....You can still cool your tank few degrees lower using cooling fans. Anyway 29C is still okay, but not on the safe zone.
So far my experience, the key for nice glosso growth is enough lights and CO2. Even without CO2 injection, they can still grow, but slower. You'll see the difference if you inject CO2.
By the way, where's your location? I'm from Malaysia :D
I will try to grow riccia on rock sometime.. :D
It could reach up to 29C ... 29.~ maybe.. :(..
Hmm.. maybe that's another option to add fan..
:D
I'm from Indonesia, Bali..
It's very crowded city.. :D
And my hobby is a rare one in Bali..
Hahahaa...
Haha, your nickname explains it all about your location :D....
you say it could reach up to 29C...so other times it's well below 29C rite :).....mine, with my new lighting(2x 55watt PLL) which release good ammount of heat, can sometimes heat up my tank to 30-31C without cooling. So I have to use cooling fan to cool down the temperature.
By the way, what type of lighting you using?
Sorry about that..
"If" I use lighting, it must be extreme...
let's say 32-33..
It's 128lt, a couple week tank, and also place in the terrace..
No lighting, but using the direct morning sunlight..
In the afternoon, 32C is the highest so far..
it's a bit cooler in night..
What do you say?
I don't think it's safe.. -_-
btw, I just started my hobby for about 3 weeks..
Do you it humids the room, when we place our aquarium inside the house?
My dad said so, that's why it's in the terrace now.. T_T
Ouch 32-33 is quite warm...you don't get any algae problem placing it outdoor?
I guess the high temperature is because it's getting quite direct sunlight during the afternoon.
Yeah, I think aquarium will humid the room, but I'm not sure how bad it will be, never thought about that. Anyway, what's the result of the humidity cause by an aquarium inside a room?
I keep my aquariums indoor, and even have one inside my room.
Yes..
I can see the algae grows very fast..
its still 3 weeks, but its getting cover my substrate... :(
its just morning sunlight..
Yeah, personally, I don't think it's a problem to place aquarium indoor..
a lot of people do it..
Has ever it cause problem to you? (humidity)
Owh, you have to start combating with the algae before it gets worst. At times it will become so bad, that you have to tear the whole tank and discard those infected plants :(...depending on what type of algae attack though.
I have never thought about the humidity, but I think it never caused any problem. I'm thinking maybe your dad is worried that the humidity might effect some wooden furniture...probably it might cause it to rot over time(but after a long period of time, not immediately)...just my guess :D
Hmm..
Ok, you make me afraid now.. hahaha
I don't blame you, but thank because you've warned me.. :D
I remembered to one of topics in Indonesian forum "o-fish", a full of algae anubias nana pic was post.. and the guy who post it said that his Anu.nana "tewas".. it means die in Indonesia, but in more cruelly way...
I'm worried about my Anubias now. Because I saw brown color algae on its leaves this morning.. I've removed it manually.. :D
Makes sense..
I guess you're right.. the drawers, dinning table, chairs, windows.. they are all wooden..
hahaha... and roof also wooden.. :D
Owh yeah, "tewas", it means lost here in Malaysia :D, e.g. as if "lost in a battle"....anyway I do understand what that guy mean by "tewas".
One of the common algae bloom under natural sunlight, is greenwater, well this algae is not so problematic...easily cure by frequent water change.
But other algaes can also come along...which require more patient to combat....owh, plus anubias are slow grower...they are more prone to algae attack under high light (sun light is categorized as high)
Owh yeah you mention about those furniture, then something just struck my mind, most furniture and wood products are varnished, to give them protection especially moisture so they can last longer. haha, guess still I don't see how aquarium moisture can effect a house...rust on iron furniture?...hmm...I guess, if there is any effect of moisture from aquarium, it most likely to be minor effect....just my guess though :D
quite different, huh? Here, it doesn't have any connection with lost, it only refers to "die", murder or accident.. :D
Haha..
yeah, you just said what was exactly happened in my tank previously..
It's solved, I changed the water..
It's greenwater as you said..
But I think, it's brown-green..
What do you say?
about the sunlight, I am going to cover the tank with plywood.. :D
And pay for a cooling fan, cuz it's 32C in the afternoon.. :(
Hmm..
I will browse further about the humidity effects..
And also, I think my dad worries about termite issue.. I will ask him about it later..
Hahahaha..
you mean to say your tank water is brown green in colour?...usually if it's brown, meaning the green water is dying...but I'm not sure what's your exact case :(
owh...32C is high, sometimes cooling fans is not strong enough, you can use a table or stand fan, when conditions gets to the extreme.
If you have good water surface circulation, that will also helps reduce heat. Example using an internal power head to blow water on the surface...that way it will helps in mixing the water and also help in the evaporation to cool the tank.
Hello..
It's been solved now.. the green-brown water.. it's actually brown I guess.. I changed the water until half yesterday..
Fiuh..
About the fan..
I found the fan is kinda too expensive for me.. T_T
I think the powerhead system as you said could be a good option.. I'll have a check for it!
That's good news, that you have solve the green-brown water :D
You can also use PC fans, but you need quite a few of them since your tank is a big one. I guess, in the end, the cost to DIY a cooling system using few pc fans can buy you a table fan....haha :D
Haha..
There's still a lot of thing I have to learn how to be an aquascaper.. :D
btw, thanks borneo.. :D
If you don't mind..
I will ask you some more Q sometimes..
Oh y.. May I have your email??
Take it easy...no rush :D
Yeah, do drop by anytime, I will try my best to help :D
